Pastor's Weekly Message
Dear Church Family,
In the last chapter of Luke's Gospel, Luke records these words of Jesus:
"Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem" (Luke 24:46-47 NASB).
Did you catch that phrase "all the nations?" Our God is a God who loves the whole world. He desires that all the nations, every people group, hear the good news that the forgiveness of sins is available through the person and work of Jesus! That message was proclaimed in Jerusalem some 2,000 years ago and it has been proclaimed throughout the world ever since. Millions have responded to the message of God's grace and have put their faith in Christ. The Book of Revelation indicates heaven will be populated from "every tribe and tongue and people and nation" (Revelation 5:9 NASB). The Book of Romans declares "Whoever will call on the name of the LORD will be saved" (Romans 10:13 NASB). It then asks some penetrating questions:
"How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent..." (Romans 10:14-15a NASB)?
These questions compel us to the work of world missions. They are the reason we have and support missionaries, people who cross cultural boundaries to share about Jesus! This Sunday we will have a world missions focus Sunday. Our special guests will be two YMAM (Youth With A Mission) missionaries who have served the Lord in a number of nations. They will share about the nation in which they are presently serving the Lord. It is one that has been much in the news recently and will be in the days ahead. Plan to join us at our regular service time of 10:30a.m. In addition to our world missions focus, we will also share a slide presentation of our recent Sports Camp where campers came to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior! It should be a great service. And remember, there's always a place for you!
Before we get to Sunday, though, let me highlight two things noted on the list of events to the left. Saturday morning we have the Men's Breakfast at 8:00a.m. at The Hangar Inn. The speaker will be Steve Kasemeier. Then, on Saturday afternoon, we have the Ladies' High Tea at 4:30p.m. The Tea will be held in the Small Auditorium and will include a silent auction. Laurie Laramie will be the speaker. Both of these events will be great opportunities for the guys and gals of SHCC to fellowship with one another and hear inspiring messages based on God's Word. And, of course, guests are welcome.
God bless you! See you Sunday!
Pastor Mike Laramie
